Today, websites meant to publish and share information have gained huge popularity: there are literally millions of blogs, wiki’s, and other sites about virtually all topics. But internet users have not only different interests or tastes: they also have different eye-sight capacities and may often require an increased font size in order to read your content without difficulty. What can be done then? Create several pages in different font sizes?

Font Magnify helps resolve this problem. It gives your website users the possibility to vary the font size until they can read the text comfortably. Besides, they won’t have to do it every time they visit your site: Font Magnify is capable of storing the variation of the font size in a cookie and remember it for the next visit.

With Font Magnify, web developers can associate content sections with two buttons (A+, A-) which will allow to increase or decrease the font size of the selected sections. The association of the content sections to these buttons is achieved by assigning classes to the content sections that you wish to be variable in font size. This way, only two buttons can increase, or decrease, the font size of several sections at once.

Font Magnify is distributed as an extension for Adobe Dreamweaver, which makes its use in webpages extremely simple.

Requirements

Adobe Dreamweaver MX or later (Dreamweaver MX, MX 2004, DW 8, CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6, CC,...).

To install Font Magnify, simply execute the file MontMagnify.mxp or use the Adobe Extension Manager software.

Once the extension is installed, it can be accessed through the menu option "Insert > Font Magnify" or in the insertion bar "Common > Font Magnify".

To Use

The webpage where you intend to insert Font Magnify, must be previously saved within your website.

To insert Font Magnify it your page, you have to position the cursor where you would like the buttons A+ and A- to be shown.

Execute the menu option Font Magnify, as explained under Installation. Once this menu option is executed, a setup window will appear; it will configure the instance of Font Magnify to be inserted in your webpage.

The setup window fields are as follows:

Minimum Font Size: a positive integer value, which allows to limit the minimum font size that can be reached in the content section associated to Font Magnify. This value is optional.

Maximum Font Size: a positive integer value which allows to limit the maximum font size that can be reached in the content section associated to Font Magnify. This value is optional.

Select a Class: If you wish to associate Font Magnify to any of the classes already existing in your webpage, just select it from the list. This way, when A+ and A- buttons are clicked, all the sections of the assigned class will vary their font size.

If instead, you wish to create a new class name, and then assign it to the sections of your webpage, just type the name of the desired class in this field. This value is mandatory.

Once Font Magnify is inserted, the buttons A+ and A- will be shown in your webpage; these will allow to control the font size in the sections belonging to the class associated to Font Magnify. In your website folder, a new subfolder will be created automatically, named TE_FontMagnify, containing all the files necessary for the correct functioning of Font Magnify.

Note: The modified page, as well as the TE_FontMagnify folder must be published onto your webserver.
